HOW TURKEY CONTROLLED CORONA VIRUS
COVID-19 (Corona Virus Disease) outbreak emerged on December 12, 2019 in China – Wuhan. After it’s spread to Europe and world, it was declared a “pandemic” by the World Health Organization. After this declaration countries were began to make provision to control COVID-19 pandemic. Turkey was one of the successful country against COVID-19. But how Turkey made this happen?
The most important reason of this success is the health system. Turkey already had good health system and that was also main reason why Turkey was chosen for plastic surgeries by all around the world. The hospitals are high qualified and health workers are also professional.
Turkey initially closed its border crossings to the countries at risk and slowly to all the neighboring countries as part of the controls, and ultimately barred all international flights. In addition, citizens and guests from abroad were quarantined under state control.
Science Board of the Ministry of Health established right after the outbreak and most of the measured made with their recommendation. One of the first measure was suspending education in primary, secondary and high schools as well as at universities on March 16 and started offering home schooling via the Internet and television. Public places such as cafes, shopping centers and entertainment venues were shut down. Also, public events such as conferences, concerts, exhibitions were cancelled. The Directorate of Religious Affairs has moved to suspend prayers in congregations at mosques, including the Friday prayer.
Quick steps were also taken in the field of health. The number of COVID-19 tests Turkey ran daily quickly surpassed 20,000 and the country has imported nearly 1 million boxes of a promising drug used as part of the treatment protocol of the disease.
With filiation system, Turkey reached positive cases quickly and started to treat them in early stage. In that way Turkey prevented collapse of health system just like Italy or Spain. It’s been almost 2 months since first case in Turkey and almost all patients whom have virus via contact detected and started to treat without waiting last stage. According to the Ministry of Health data, the number of patients recovering from the results of the last three days exceeds the number of detected cases. Turkey succeed this thanks to improved health system, early measures and strict monitoring with filiation system.
