During the chin augmentation procedure, an implant is positioned along the chin to improve the chin, jawline, and overall balance of the face. A good candidate for this procedure normally has a receding chin that can make the nose appear wider or obscure the difference between the chin and the neck. If a chin augmentation is done as a stand-alone operation, it is considered minimally invasive and can be performed in a clinic under local anesthesia. Submental liposuction is usually conducted at the same time to improve the overall appearance of the chin/jawline. The chin implant is placed through a small incision directly under the chin, making the scar very difficult to see.
Patients recovering from chin augmentation have said the pain is typically minimal. After surgery, the chin is taped and wrapped for 5 days before the sutures are removed. It is also very normal for patients to experience temporary numbness in their incision areas. Improvement is clear immediately, but full effects are noticeable after the initial swelling has been resolved after three to four weeks. Chin implants have been designed to last a lifetime and are designed not to move. Patients can enjoy the benefits of a chin augmentation for the rest of their lives.
